Loud Passing Train

Kimia Eslah

--

My mother’s memory comes to me invariably.
Like a loud train passing through town, drowning out all else,
her memory stops me on my path.

In the memories, she is not noisy or careening.
She is her formidable self, upholding values and balancing needs.
I am her bothersome child, unraveling the narrative she weaves.
